30… 29… 28…

I’ve been thinking how crazy it is that I will be in Thailand in one month (actually a month from yesterday). I decided on January 1st that I was going to leave California and move to Thailand. (Obviously there’s a lot more to that story than just deciding one day to leave the country, but I’m going to gloss over that right now.) Since living there back in 2009, it has stuck with me as one of my favorite places in the world. The language, the people, the customs and culture and mannerisms, it captured me back then and I’m extremely excited to go back.

But then I realized an even crazier fact about this coming month. This is the last time I will live in the U.S. for the foreseeable future. Most likely Topi and I will come back – it could even been within the next couple years – but we have no plan for doing so. Thailand will be however long Thailand is, and I really want to move to another country after that (preferably a (particular) Spanish-speaking country). But who knows!

Before when I’ve lived abroad, it was for a set amount of time before I returned to the U.S. to either continue school or start my job. This time, I’m simply moving away. I love that! This is exactly how I want my life to be right now, including the parts that are difficult or that scare me.

Today, it’s 28 days and counting until I take a one-way flight to Thailand!
